Contribution years earned on one side of the Atlantic are not lost — but they only count if the coordination is claimed correctly and in time.

Working between the two countries creates two questions that are often confused: where contributions are due while you work, and how the two records are combined when you retire. The agreement answers both, with different rules and different evidence.
